Lindisfarne - Follow in the footsteps of saints to the ruins of Lindisfarne building right in the heart of the city centre.
Priory, founded by St Aidan in 635 AD in which the Lindisfarne Gospels were
written. The existing ruins are the remains of the priory re-established in
Norman times as a Benedictine monastery which came to ruin in 1536 under
Henry VIII.
Beamish - a world famous open air museum, telling the story of life in North
East England during the 1820s, 1900s, 1940s and 1950s. Beamish Museum
was founded in 1970 by Frank Atkinson to preserve the region’s heritage for
future generations. Frank found inspiration from Scandinavian folk museums
and wanted to build a museum to bring the region’s history to life.
